Aerial units scanned the area from the air but reported no active disturbance. However, deputies found that hundreds of people had gathered without authorization without authorization.

The Shooting Itself

Deputies started clearing the unauthorized gathering by forming a perimeter and broadcasting over loudspeakers telling the hundreds present to clear out. Nearly 15 minutes were provided for people to comply.

What Investigators Found

The bulk of the shooting appears to have unfolded adjacent to Cottage Way alongside the local Home Depot on the 2200 block of Howe Ave. CSI personnel discovered extra shell casings scattered along Cottage Way. Projectile impacts were observed in the iron perimeter fence bordering the Home Depot store. These discoveries suggested that a shooter had been aiming south from the Cottage Way area toward the Home Depot building and parking lot. The store itself was temporarily locked down while the scene was active. Crime scene personnel stayed at the location through the early morning hours.
